A new spin on MIDI controllers – Quickswitch

Monday, May 31st, 2010
This is going to be an interesting week for DVS users. Not only have Novation got something up their sleeve, but a guy called Joe Ward has hooked up with Vestax Controller One inventor Ricci Rucker aka The Ruckazoid to present an highly interesting take on MIDI controllers for DVS users. C1 meets MIDI controller in the all new Quickswitch deck controllers.

The iPad cometh…

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010
By the end of the week, I may have reverted to uncommunicative fanboy rather than objective industry commentator, as I drool over my new acquisition - a 16Gb iPad. My reasons for getting one are twofold - firstly Mrs Gizmo needs her own lightweight surfing box. But secondly, I strongly believe that the iPad will have a ridiculous impact on the DJ scene that the iPhone cannot have. And if the above video is anything to go by, we're in for some fun times ahead...

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

rekordboxIn a previous article, we mentioned that Pioneer’s software, rekordbox, was to become free! So Pioneer have finally made rekordbox available for download on their ProDJ website.

rekordbox is supplied with the Pioneer CDJ-2000 cd player and allows total management of your digital record collection including creating cue-points, loops and hot-starts, as well as loads more features that are designed for the CDJ-2000.

rekordbox is designed to be future-proof in that future evolutionary Pioneer cd players will also be compatible with the software.

You can download rekordbox here.

rekordbox Will Be Free!

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

rekordboxPioneer representitive, xx, has officially confirmed that Pioneer’s rekordbox dj software is to be distributed free of charge.

In an interview with internet magazine The DJ Business [Link to Video]; Rik Parkinson, the product executive of Pioneer Pro DJ UK, has confirmed (whilst talking about Pioneer’s CDJ-350 that will be released in June 2010) that Pioneer Rekordbox software will be available free from their website.

Rik says:As of 1st May [2010] rekordbox will be a free piece of software available to whomever accross the world. …So when we released the CDJ-900 [and CDJ-2000] we realised that maybe only getting rekordbox inside the box was a bit of an issue.

Musikmesse 2010: djay remote

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010
I'm still unsure (yes even now) about the ability of the iPhone to totally replace the DJ experience in your hand. But some apps have crept out that go some way towards at least helping. And this particular app - djay remote - doesn't aim to do the grunt, but does in fact take over the controls of djay on your Mac. And for the record, the promo video above was made by me - it's my first promo shoot and I'm really proud of it.

What’s in the box? Rekordbox!

Monday, March 15th, 2010
When Pioneer's new species of CDJ pull itself from the primordial ooze, it brought with it rekordbox - MixVibes' music library management software, that hinted at a standard way for all DJs to manage their collections. But at first Pioneer were all "It's ours and you can't have it" and made you fork out for a new CDJ, just to get your hands on this tiny bit of software. But now, Pioneer have seen sense and are giving it away to the DJ world as of 17th May 2010.

xone:DX – the dirty tease…

Thursday, March 11th, 2010
In a technology-led scene, it's just way too soon have established traditions. But one thing is becoming almost expected these days - and that's the ritual of gear pr0n unboxing. And being the distinctly lucky bastard that I am, Allen & Heath have despatched their newest xone incarnation - the hugely desirable DX in all its 4 channel effects laden ITCH rocking glory.

UPDATE: djay 3.1

Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Algoriddim aren't resting on their laurels at all. After taking the Mac world by storm with v3 of djay, and hooking up with Vestax to make Spin - the (for now anyway) Mac only djay specific controller - djay has been updated. Clearly taking my review seriously, djay has undergone a bugfixing fest as well as honing some of the key features to perfection.
