RIP CDJ-1000
Friday, February 26th, 2010Pioneer CDJ1000 Discontinued
Friday, February 26th, 2010Pioneer have today announced that they will discontinue the Pioneer CDJ-1000 MK3. It’s no surprise as they have announced two new players, Pioneer CDJ-900 and Pioneer CDJ-2000.
It was speculated at the time the CDJ-2000 was released that this player was set to become the direct replacement for the CDJ-1000 and it seems that this is exactly what’s happened.

A statement directly from Pioneer says:
It is with mixed feelings that today we announce to the channel the discontinuation of the CDJ 1000MK3…….thanks to the hard work of our then newly appointed direct retailers, installers and established distribution, as well as the DJ’s who instantly recognised it as the first real practical DJ CD player, it very quickly became an industry standard fixture in the DJ booth.
What’s interesting is that Pioneer haven’t yet mentioned whether the CDJ-800, the CDJ-1000’s little silver brother, is to be discontinued.
Oh well, I suppose if you’re quick you may be able to grab a pair of CDJ-1000’s but in reality, this was coming. Although the CDJ-1000 sits in most DJ booths as the industry standard, it’s technology as a CD/MP3 CD only player was getting a bit out dated.
It’s successor, the CDJ-2000, does look and feel like a typical Pioneer player but with extensive new features and the ability to play directly fom a HDD or PC.

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009Pioneer CDJ2000 Announced
Thursday, September 17th, 2009Today, Pioneer have released the arrival of a brand new media player! The new player supercedes the highly acclaimed Pioneer CDJ-1000 which has dominated the DJ industry as the industry standard for over a decade.
Pioneer CDJ-2000 will, for now, be produced and sold alongside it’s predecessor, the Pioneer CDJ-1000.
So what’s new?
Well apart from a new sexy look taken from Pioneer DVJ-1000, it’s are not just cd/mp3 players, they are media players with mini software control.
Both models are supplied with Pioneer’s rekordbox™ software which is both PC and Mac compatible but in the words of Pioneer is “like the leading music database management software, but is more creative and more DJ-friendly”.
DJ Link – Industry First
Pioneer claim that this player has an “industry first” player link. This functionality means that you can share music from any source simultaneously accross upto four players. This is great, because until now, you would have had to have two identical hard drives in order to play the same tracks on two different players.
Layout
As mentioned above, the Pioneer CDJ-2000’s layout is stylish, resembling it’s predecessor, the Pioneer CDJ-1000. However this player feels more robust and is better ergonomically designed, like the Pioneer DVJ-1000.
This is a major improvement for this new player, however, it does mean that your new Pioneer CDJ-2000 player will not fit on your old Pioneer CDJ-1000 case.
On the up side, the player is slightly narrower than the CDJ-1000, making this player more space saving and you can now fit this player and a 10″/12″ in a small DJ booth.
Also, Spacetek have just announced that they have created a new bracket specifically for the Pioneer CDJ-2000.
Date & Price
According to Pioneer the CDJ-2000 is available from November 2009 with a suggested retail price including VAT of £1499 which includes rekordbox software.
